HIS 340 History of the Connecticut River

The main objective for this General Education course is to provide students an understanding of the ever-changing condition of the Connecticut River and its watershed. This will be accomplished through investigation of historical and ongoing environmental and cultural factors underlying river and watershed conditions. The approach is multi-disciplinary in that it draws upon physical and environmental sciences as well as classical historical narrative, but there are no prerequisites except for geographically-based interest in the River and its watershed. Secondarily, students will understand the unique contributions that historical events in the Connecticut River watershed have made to the region, the United States, and the world. Through these objectives, students will develop an appreciation for and cultivate a sense of place within the Connecticut River watershed. Course content will be presented through a combination of readings, online presentations and other content, and online discussions. (F)
